Wounded Minotaur VI (Minotaure blessé. VI) from the Vollard Suite (Suite Vollard) 1933, published 1939. In the 1930s, Picasso found a compelling reflection of himself in the mythical Minotaur, a creature melding man and bull. This figure became a central motif in his exploration of Classicism, influencing his art for years to come. Surrealists, too, embraced the Minotaur, viewing it as a symbol of taboo desires. For Picasso, it became a vehicle to express a tumultuous inner landscape, embodying emotions ranging from lust and aggression to guilt and despair.
